How do you relax your mind?

Anxiety, worries, stress. How do you tame your mind?
I love to write or watch music videos. I could also look at art for ages.
I don't know if the mind can be "tamed," but to relax it, meditation works well. And it can involve just sitting with your closed eyes for 15 or 20 minutes, reciting a mantra or not - or, by watching a river or stream or sitting by a lake, watching the birds fly by, sitting in front of a nice fire in the fireplace.... lots of ways. And if you find it hard to let go of worries, you can visualize taking them out of your head and putting them in a jar, then putting the jar on a shelf and leaving it there for the time you're in meditation, knowing after your meditation, you can put the thoughts and worries back inside of your head. But let it be okay that they're not inside of you, just for the time being.
Just drop all resistance and think of nothing. When thoughts arise (and they will), picture each thought, regardless of what it is, turning into a cloud above your head and blowing away behind you. Good Luck.

Sometimes I retreat in my mind to fantasy, kind of like reading a book where you get lost in something else and forget about your stresses.

That’s easier said then done I think. Good answers below. My method is to work or take action. If a conflict, I try to face it as soon as possible. If it’s today and feeling just overwhelmed with responsibility I take a 10 minute break and get back to it. If it’s bigger than that I just tend to internalize it and put on my “under control “ mask. Not recommending that.

@trackman11 I distract my mind with books, movies, games. If I get some time I opt for creative hobbies:writing drawing painting origami or learning to make anything interesting with my hands (I like finding alternatives to reuse things.. plus I'm clumsy and it is a cool challenge hahah ) I also like to put a drawer or my clothes in order. Ordering feels nice when you feel chaotic in your mind. One of the best things when emotionally heavy is a big walk. Just think about what I see on the way .. breathe it out.. it helps.

@Busybee333 excellent choices. Your list made me realize I have some of those same things that I enjoy (shorter list due to limited creativity lol). I’m glad you have those distractions.

Exercise (especially long walks, they’re meditative) or writing/expressing myself in some way :)

Interesting - what is the breathing exercise called ? May give it a go.. stressful days here as well xD
Music and writing... I stopped writing for very long time. I was writing a lot before. It's hard to get inspiration now.

Think of solutions, what ever causing it. Work on it like a challenge and enjoy fixing it.
If can't, just give up and move on

Draw. Read. Watch some movie that’s going to make me bawl so I’m distracted by the runny nose and puffy eyes and general misery.
