I would never dispute what I get charged by a doctor. That relay probably cost less than $50 to the repair guy...markup is crazy...not to mention the per hour cost to fix it. I just put in a 144 square foot laminated floor for a neighbor and charged him only $200 for labor. Only took me 4 hours...he bought the material for around $300. Thats only $500 total....he said floor guy wanted to charge him $500 just for labor....btw...he and his wife loved it.

@PTCdresser57 Alan probably could have done it but then we wouldn't have had a working fridge in the kitchen until tomorrow. thank God for the kitchen behind the bar in the rec room or we would have lost a lot of food
PTCdresser57 · 61-69, M
He Probably could have sara. Thank God you didn't lose food.🙂

@saragoodtimes food usually won't go bad from just one day.

"What's Next?"
My wife called me at work, said the fridge just died,
And I couldn’t repress a smile,
As hard as I tired.
You see, My Jeep’s got a brake leak, and there’s something wrong with the tire,
My son was playing with matches, and almost set the house on fire.
The computer crashed yet again, I dropped my wedding ring down the sink,
The trash bag broke, on the way out the door,
Spilling left-over slaw and chicken bones,
All over the floor.
The swamp-cooler isn’t cool,
There are spider’s on the wall,
There’s a hole in the pool,
And let me tell you, that’s not all.
I just cleaned up three piles,
From the dog that never barked,
I got a ticket on my windshield,
From the other day when I double parked.
There’s just so many things I have to deal with,
All jumbled up in my head, and to top it all off,
The bank account is in the red.
So that’s why I had to smile to myself when my wife called and said,
Oh, did I tell you, the refrigerator’s gone dead.
What’s Next?

Sounds like a typical bad day, when it rains it pours, feast or famine no happy medium.@Montanaman

The drive to your home, the drive to the next place. Shop time, scheduling, dispatch, parts inventory, workman’s compensation, health insurance, company vehicle, fuel, maintenance and more. It’s not the 15 minutes. It’s the everything else.
Does it work? Be happy. 👍

@carpediem it works
saragoodtimes · F
@carpediem similar to doctors. the cost of an office, salary for nurses, health and malpractice insurance, social security taxes for his staff, retirement benefits , vacation pay, yet he can't collect his full charge only what insurance pays . and lets not forget paying off his education loans with no forgiveness from the gov't

Let's see. I paid $300 to have a repairman come in to change a part on my wash machine. And $400 to have a used gas stove bought and installed. You should be thankful your husband has a great job. Do you work at a career too? It is easy to be angry at a bill that seems outrageous, but repairmen need to make a living too and they are specialized. Count your blessings. Another Monday morning rolls on in...

@saragoodtimes That is a better way to look at it. For some, they are having to survive and they have no budget. I am thankful for my blessings.
I shall add this. I remember you from your posting about not knowing how to pump gas. I am glad you learned how. I remember thinking that you seemed rather helpless and maybe you felt entitled. I do not know you. Just hope you are kind to others who have less than you. That is all. Have a good day.

@PoetryNEmotion my husband has changed his policy so no one goes without or postpones health care because they can't afford a co-pay or deductible. hope more doctors have taken the same stance
PoetryNEmotion · F
@saragoodtimes Good for him. Perhaps you could focus your efforts on having other professionals do this locally and more. I am Canadian so my health care system is different, but poverty does effect people here.
I notice you do not make any comments to anything I have mentioned in this thread to you. I am left to my own thoughts then. I guess it may all be about perspective. Bye.

They don't make them like they used to. I have a fridge in my garage that's really old, like 40 years old, still works really well. My new one in the house has broken twice, ruining a lot of food.
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
Thats criminal. Jeeze
You’ld think for what a new one costs nowadays, they would last.
My parents had an old McLary that is from the 60’s. Im sure its still running in someones garage today

My wife has burned the scrambled eggs
The dog just bit my leg
My teenage daughter ran away
My fine young son has turned out gay
And it would be OK on any other day
(Happy birthday to me) 😆

Same here. I ended up getting a new one. Mine was 15 years old though, still worked but was making loud horrible noises.

Time to get a new technician
turbineman40 · 80-89, M
@saragoodtimes I can understand a $150.00 drive to your location but $350.00 is high to me
saragoodtimes · F
@turbineman40 Alan charges for his time but then insurance or Medicare determine what the payment will be and he has to accept it
turbineman40 · 80-89, M
@saragoodtimes I have a brother in law who is a general surgeon. He tells me the same story. The government is taking over the medical professionals
Turtlepower · 36-40, M
I mean I received a $4000 bill for my wife's 5 mile ambulance bill. I'll still complain about medical bills and that bill you got lol
Slade · 56-60, M
@Turtlepower I still don't think they have the leverage to collect. After insurance I think they are at your mercy
Turtlepower · 36-40, M
@Slade they do, but you can make it hard for them. To me they don't quote you for a service and you have no option in an emergency. It's essentially theft. It's like calling an Uber and a Lamborghini shows up and your bill is several thousand dollars to go across town rather than a few bucks lol
Slade · 56-60, M
@Turtlepower yes.
Universal health care here….no bills from the doc
stratosranger · M
Isn’t it odd (but telling) when all repairmen seem to have the same handwriting? No category for screwing on that list. I assume that’s just buried in the cost and lubricant cost extra.

Compressor relay
saragoodtimes · F
@1olderguy20 the internet can diagnose any problem. the markup on the part was redicullous
1olderguy20 · 61-69, M
@saragoodtimes i know. I think i padid like 2m35 to 50 on the internet fir the part.
saragoodtimes · F
@1olderguy20 at least we could afford it. when he called to say he was on his way he said it was cash or credit card. what about a family living check to check. what would they do
Eddiesolds · 61-69, M
What a rip off. You vould have changed that yourself.
saragoodtimes · F
@Eddiesolds not me, he could have
Eddiesolds · 61-69, M
@saragoodtimes Yes i agree. Just charge you for the part. What a shame.
Eddiesolds · 61-69, M
@saragoodtimes I do alot of freebies for my customers. I dont care. It needs to be painted anyways. I still make my money and they are always pretty happy. Ive always been like that. Ill never change.
Ontheroad · M
I'd love to know the part number of the relay. It's not unusual for them to be marked up 50-100%.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
