Well I'm not sure if it's polite, but my favorite expression of admiration to receive is a BJ (what, it never said it had to be verbal).
Probably second or third is a great tight hug.
As for verbally, just appreciation for assisting or trying to assistant and help out.
Though I really enjoyed my boss telling his boss that I'm really great at one part of my job, though I may struggle at some other parts. I'm currently the least experienced person in our office.
