@SarahAndSamantha I always liked to think it was the Sumerian God, Nergal. He was depicted with the body of a lion. Meeting the summerians might explain why the south kingdom was suddenly do well equips and better at war when they took the north kingdom to unite Egypt. Skip forward several generations and you see the black pharaohs lined come from Ethiopia and the unification of the different cults under Horus. Maybe the priests wanted to purge this foreign influence from their history and was ready to accept a new royal line to do it.
