Remember when you could see a sky full of stars at night?

Now I see only a few 馃槵

Peapod61-69, F
One time, my husband took me to a place in the mountains where we were far away from any major cities or large towns. We had a perfectly clear night with no humidity. There were so many stars that I actually felt dizzy looking at them. It's shocking to know how many stars are there without all the light pollution and haze.
LilymoonF
@Peapod Wow....that is amazing. I'm sure the mountains are a perfect spot to see stars 馃専
Peapod61-69, F
@Lilymoon This particular spot is away from any of the usual resorts too. It was amazing and it's the kind of thing you hope everyone will see at least once in their lifetime.

@geoam1 that's awesome
BackyardShaman61-69, M
I see them all! I love it I鈥檓 in a rural place.

I've never seen the sky like that. Light pollution makes it that I can only see a few stars which sucks. It'd be great to see what it's like to have the city turn off its lights for a night
LilymoonF
@deadgerbil wouldn't it?? That would be great ha
Ducky31-35, F
I haven鈥檛 had a sight like that since the last time I was in Alaska last year. At least I got to see stars and the aurora borealis.
LilymoonF
@Ducky Nice!!
Ducky31-35, F
@Lilymoon Hope you get to see them someday if you haven鈥檛 already.
LilymoonF
@Ducky thanks me too:)
OogieBoogieF
I miss them too.
I used to be able to look up and see the milky way .
Now....its so faded i can hardly see it.

I cant even imagine what it would be like in a city.

I do know that sailors and the navy get to see the stars like nobody else....so far from land.
It must be AMAZING .

@OogieBoogie yeah I remember as a kid being awed by it.

Now unless it's a really clear night a few is all I see

I would love to see it again. Maybe out in the country but still not as many
Piper61-69, F
Yes. Where I live now, its rare that I see a lot of them. I miss seeing a sky full of them, too.
LilymoonF
@Piper yep 馃槙
MajorlatencyM
Ah yes, I remember when the icestorm took the power out in 2013, I ran a spare generator to a friend north of here. The sky was so clear and no lights anywhere I stepped out of my truck and the heavens were plastered in light. I was gobsmacked..I saw the Aurora Borealis just north of Rockwood! Awesome!
LilymoonF
@Majorlatency wow nice
Peter44946-50
Light pollution and smog mostly
LilymoonF
@Peter449 yeah no doubt :/
SageWanderer70-79, M
I still remember the first time that my wife (city girl) went camping with me. Being able to see the Milkey Way as we did was almost a religious experience to her. Over the years it has become more difficult to find those kinds of places.
LilymoonF
@SageWanderer yeah I totally get that.
It's really too bad that's been taken away from us
NorthwestM
Fortunately, living in the PNW, means there are plenty of places, especially along the Washington and Oregon coasts, where the night sky is amazing. When it's not raining, of course.
LilymoonF
@Northwest nice
BeJeweledF
I sure do when I was a kid. We actually saw stars last week while driving home from our vacation in the midwest. It was awesome seeing them again.
LilymoonF
@BeJeweled yeah I miss seeing them....
hunkalove61-69, M
I can see the moon and one star. For a while recently I could see two stars. Probably the planets Mars and Jupiter. Quite a treat.
LilymoonF
@hunkalove would be nice to have a telescope on those nights
hunkalove61-69, M
@Lilymoon I doubt I could see much detail. Too much pollution.
TeslinM
Light pollution in some areas.
LilymoonF
@Teslin sad really
TeslinM
@Lilymoon Yes. I'm very lucky. Still like living in the country. Not even any street lights nearby.
LilymoonF
@Teslin oh cool...
Pretzel61-69, M
I miss fireflies too

used to be a ton of them growing up
LilymoonF
@Pretzel oh yeah! I've seen a few but not many for sure
Barny5256-60, M
Used to be able to see them from our back door but 50yrs later we can鈥檛

LilymoonF
@DDonde yeah so beautiful
iamonfire69641-45, F
