Can you tell when someone is lying to you? If so how?

I can tell when they seem tense while telling me something or their tone of voice.
gdon39 · 46-50, M
If someone is going to lie to me it better be on the phone and we’ll rehearsed.

I I’m trained in listening skills and reading body language which isn’t necessarily a positive indicator due to many variables. However your words, inflection and more.

Worst part of being an active listener is no one hears what you are saying and you know the second they begin thinking or formulating thoughts about what they want to say even though they don’t really know what you are trying to say. Frustrating
I find it difficult to tell with some people.
People I know, it's a matter of just knowing what to look for with them specifically.
when my son lies to me is totally different from his father and his sisters.
some people can't make eye contact, others have intense eye contact.

It depends. Sometimes we subconsciously pick up the micro expressions and the asynchronicity between their facial/body expressions & statements. However to truly tell, we usually need a truth base line first. That's why it's easier to recognize lies with someone you already know, because something in their actions will be off.

But general tension and voice could also mean they're social anxious, just nervous, or any other reason. God knows how many men assumed I fancy them because of my social fears 😂

Yes, watch their eyes, their twitching, body language. If they look to their right before answering that means they're activating the creative side of their brain and not their memories.
