Trump has already said he intends to run in 2024 Your thoughts?

I don't think he really has much of a chance. Granted, he will maintain his hold on the less educated MAGA crowd They have the typical cult loyalty. I think the somewhat less freakish bizarre types are going to support Ron DeSantis even though he is just as much a threat to our rapidly eroding Democracy.

My hope is that there will be a large group of young women who turn out to the polls and make certain that does not happen.

@bijouxbroussard Those married to others of different "races" must vote too.
tindrummer · M
@Crazywaterspring including Thomas, right? 🤓
@tindrummer One would really think he’d know better. Obergefell was established on the same basis as Loving, and if one can be declared a "mistake", so could the other—very easily.

He's 76. That's what strokes are for.

@FrogManSometimesLooksBothWays He does not appear to look after himself.
@FrogManSometimesLooksBothWays LMAO kindly inform him of that.
I doubt it will ever happen but I would LOVE to see Pete Buttigieg run. He is an Independent which is something we really need right now I'm so tired of extremes I could scream. He is poised, highly intelligent, and seems to be held in high regard by most people.

He is sympathetic to human rights and has a winning personality. Like I said, not likely but would be a great alternative.

Two years ago the straw poll at CPAC showed 79% of republicans supported another run by him. A year ago 59% at CPAC supported him. Two weeks ago a Gallup poll showed 49% still support him. He’s slipping badly, and there’s still two years before the election. I don’t think he has much of a chance.
@Zaphod42 Meanwhile, DeSantis slowly gaining, one is as bad as the other. I think DeSanris is a more dangerous threat though.
Zaphod42 · 51-55, M
@Grateful4you I agree. DeSantis if every bit as nuts as trump, but he knows how to play the political game.
Pretzel · 61-69, M
he will have his die hard supporters - and may get the nod if somebody else doesn't step up with a strong personality and a decent plan

@Pretzel I agree about the office..
I think he leaned into the lack of respect too much..
His incompetence was exposed on the world stage.
Pretzel · 61-69, M
@Grateful4you no I mean like a decent plan to reduce inflation and improve the supply chain
positive improvements
real ones
not fluff and bluster
@Pretzel Great observation and true. Thanks.
@Grateful4you I think that Trump will run mainly to receive the 'donations' to his 'campaign' (?). His large number of cult followers do pose a problem for other GOP members. If they do vote, they could pull a lot of votes away from the other GOP members because they are loyal only to trump and not to the party.
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
I think he intends to run even if he is disqualified from running. I don’t think he can win, DeSantis, Abbot, or some other extremist will likely get the GOP nomination. Thing is, movie stars or athletes are what appeal to shallow voters, Trump, Walker, Dr. Oz, Reagan are examples.

I hope Trump is in prison or dead by 2024. Hopefully both. I suspect our next president will be Mitt Romney. I hope Biden knows he can't possibly be reelected and he will get out of the way and let someone more capable have the job.
@hunkalove I don't wish him dead, perhaps comatose or complete vegetative state. I'm more leaning to the left but at least Mitt Romney has personal integrity I could easily adjust to him considering some of the other possible nominee's.
LegendofPeza · 56-60, M
I think he's probably betting that AG Merrick Garland wouldn't dare indict an ex-President who is running for office again. I also think he might announce it before the committee's final hearing next week , because after that I doubt there'd be too many , beyond the cult , who will give him a hope in hell of ever being President again.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
Aside from the partisanship, are your Presidential candidates voted for by the Party from its Representatives or Senators standing for the post; or do they by-pass that and stand as individuals wishing to be approved by the electorate at large?
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
I do believe trump is a patriot, or at least I think he thinks he's a real hardcore patriot. I'm not surprised he'd run for a second term.

Whether or not he's got a chance, I have no idea. I'm not the most politically minded person to be able to tell
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
Hope there's someone good out there to run against him. Needs to be a good speaker with a good platform. Not too liberal and not crazy conservative. Just needs to tell it like it is and know how to get the job done.
val70 · 51-55
Only this week I did a faux pas yet again. Told someone that Le Penn could be dead for the next presidential election. It came out very flippantly.
@val70 Good point. I intend to be out of the country by then. An ExPat living on the shores of Puerto Vallarta. I can hardly wait!

I'd love to experience that from afar again
@Ingwe ? Did you mean "From afar?"{
@Ingwe I thought thats what you meant. Lucky you. out of sight from the madness.

@Ferise1 Yes, let’s make sure all the fraud that didn’t happen last time doesn’t happen again 😂
@Zaphod42 Exactly. Having had my home used as a designated voting place I know how much attention to detail goes into this long and tiresome duty. Poll volunteers are absolutely exhausted by the end of the night. Yes, there has been an element fraud as is the case in ANY election but the numbers are extremely low. It's difficult work but the satisfaction of having participated in our election process is very satisfying.
