Just like animals are, yeah. However, I believe we’re also the only beings capable of going against our wiring.

Yes. It's like I have said before (and many don't agree) we are bad people striving to be good. Some people just do a much better job at sustaining more good than bad. It's a continual process.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@ravenwind43 .... like a teeter-totter between good and evil. Good prevails when we encourage it, but likewise evil when it seemingly serves us.
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@Heartlander Wise as always my friend :)
NickiHijab · F
No.
I think we long for connection. The way we achieve it is more telling of someone's disposition.
leeloh · F
No, not majority of people.
It's the environment that shapes us.. In general, people like the society aspect, mutual respect, sharing and caring bc that's how we survive.
What we have done in the past
5000 years is beyond what we naturally are meant to do.

Of course I'm not including a certain percentage of the population that has different neurological wiring and lack empathy and can take life easily
I think some people are wired that way, but not many. Others have low self esteem and are cruel to make themselves feel better/superior. Some respond in kind, i.e. behave badly because they were treated badly. For others still, there are environmental factors at play. I'd say it's mostly a learned behavior.

About 40 to 60% lack compassion in my experience.
Definitely not.

Cruelty is learned by experiencing cruelty from others as a child. People react in different ways to abuse from others; about 15% grow up to become perpetrators of the same.

In some cases, cruelty can be caused by ignorance or lack of empathy.

We have destroyed our planet. Using the word cruel to describe us is like describing donald trump as a man of honor with an inpeccable record of kindness, truth, and generosity..
WhateverWorks · 36-40
No, they just do desperate things in times of scarcity and trauma does complicated things to the mind. We’re animals.
SW-User
Yes.
Every human is capable of cruelty in varying degrees, even if they never act on it or are put in the situation that brings it out.
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
Just that some are wired that way and there are others who are not cruel themselves but don't care at all about others.
Boleuskas · M
It is in human nature to be cruel, some get over it, some sont. It all depends of life circumstances
Magenta · F
Yes. We all have the ability and potential to be.
Observing nature/animals also teaches us that.
pentacorn · F
sometimes our instincts followed could be interpreted that way. i mean, we are mammals with primal needs
More evolved our brains are, lesser cruel we will be to each other.

But at the end of the day, we are animals too.

We are wired for survival, often that involves being cruel
YoungPoet345 · 26-30, F
Depends on the human. If they are a human or a psychopath
masterofyou · 70-79, M
Actually no, but according to someone on here i am cruel...
GJOFJ3 · 61-69, M
No. Cruelty is a result of wiring malfunction

Seems that way, doesn't it. :(
Linseyonthereal · 31-35, F
@ChipmunkErnie yes, I noticed ☹️

I don't like to think so
iamelijah · 26-30, M
At some point, yes.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Cruelty is a damaged emotional response to the world.

We arent born that way, but some are conditioned that way.😞
Zonuss · 41-45, M
I feel that it is in man's nature to sin.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
Some are, sure. Some are wired to be quite nice, too.
Some more than others.
caesar7 · 61-69, M
That's what overpopulation does to people.
Adrift · 61-69, F
@caesar7 I agree on this. I saw a old documentary on an experiment they did with rats. The more population of rats, the more aggression the rats had towards each other.
It was kind of creepy.
caesar7 · 61-69, M
@Adrift I agree.
