Have you ever done therapy?

I did for some acute anxiety issues, and honestly it was a godsend.
SW-User
Yes. I have anxiety issues and OCD, and therapy has helped with both, ever since I first started going in college.
SW-User
@SW-User that’s awesome you’re putting yourself forward like that
rokrchik1211 · 26-30, F
Yes. Been in therapy for years. It helps but my conditions are chronic
SW-User
@rokrchik1211 it’s all about the work
rokrchik1211 · 26-30, F
@SW-User yeah that’s true. It’s not easy though
SW-User
@rokrchik1211 it’s not but it’s our journey
MyNameIsHurl · 41-45, F
No, I'm my own therapist, hahaha.
SW-User
@MyNameIsHurl fair 😂
MyNameIsHurl · 41-45, F
@SW-User I do alright
SW-User
@MyNameIsHurl it’s a process, if you can centre yourself that’s key :)

No, after a friend told me about a case of a psychiatrist who helped a woman with munchausen's syndrome repeatedly drug her son, I am pretty wary of these people. Yeah, I know the difference between a therapist and psychiatrist, but still...
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@SW-User Yes I know...I know...I've had trust issues even before. I can't imagine I would spill it all to a stranger who could harm me some way.
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
@CrazyMusicLover Holy moly!!!!
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@FlowersNButterflies Yeah, that was an extreme case but from what people told me in general, it's hard to find a good helpful therapist.

@SW-User how do you find it?
SW-User
@SW-User some of it really helped me
SW-User
@NickiHijab thoughts?

SW-User
@ElRengo did you take away enough?
ElRengo · 70-79, M
@SW-User
Had along life some not bad but neither good enough experiences.
My last one, yes, was good and helpful.
It´s sometimes related to compatibility, to share some common views.

@SW-User I hope so. Things are improving and the public awareness is rising but still. The practice is more centered around drugging. I mean, I'm not against medications if used correctly but behavioral therapy is just as important, if not more so. As you've mentioned where you vent & they listen, ask & direct. This part is sorta neglected.
SW-User
@SW-User agreed, drugs are part of the solution and a bridge to get you in a place where you can begin behavioral therapy
SW-User
@SW-User Indeed. I know people who've improved drastically on drugs but remained dependent on them bc they don't have a clue on how to proceed otherwise.
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
Yes, and it can be helpful. I have also had some really bad therapists. Would like to find one now, for ZOOM.
Ingwe · F
No. I get anxious and when the knot inside gets too tight, I pop a pill.
SW-User
@Ingwe that’s fair, it was worth it to me though to work through some coping strategies as well
Yes at a few different points in my life.
Chickie · F
I am still in therapy, well counseling. It's okay but I feel like nothing helps
