Do you still use your landline phone?

I still have a functional landline at my place. I may not use it often, but I like to keep it. Simply because a backup is always necessary. It sometimes saddens me to see it lying in the corner and waiting to be used. There are lots of inventions and technological innovations that were a big deal once; today they are simply a piece of history. Mine is a cordless phone.

I believe in getting used to technological upgrades, but it is worth looking at the marvels of the past at times. I remember when payphones and telephone booths used to be necessities. You don't see them anymore. The ones intact aren't functional. Dial-up internet is literally history now. Even DSL internet is history now. You tell Gen Z and Alpha about it, and they find the technology amusing. Cassette players/Walkmans are considered obsolete now. They used to be a must-have gadget then.

We humans have come a long way! However, the technology that is now taking over society will have some serious consequences in the near future. AI will give us wonders beyond our imagination, but these wonders will lead our society towards a state of depression. The signs are already visible now. The godfather of AI is worried about AI's impact on society. Yet, we humans are clueless as to what is coming our way.

Sorry, I got carried away. Do you still have a landline phone at your place? Old people still prefer landlines because they are used to that technology. Explaining technology to someone who has ignored it for decades is a challenge.

I still have a landline. Seems it is mostly used for spam/robo calls. I keep it for the backup benefit.
