The universe behaves perfectly fine - its material structure is governed by an extremely reliable set of forces which have nothing to do with us at all. So even if we squander our ability to understanding it better, the universe will still continue to go about its business under these elemental forces. It is what it is. We are merely spectating all of this into existence, anyway.

Well there's no need to re-shape something that already works, but you can administer as much freewill as you want, providing, of course, that you can accept the responsibilities that come with such freedom. As we're condemned to be free, everything is in our hands, and everything we do next derives from our own private thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and ideas - things which the material universe doesn't determine or provide for us.

Not if you consider that its human thought - human intent - which gets the universe chugging along in any meaningful sense. In that way, the universe is constantly bending to our will, and not the other way around. We play by the basic rules, to as to keep the game alive, but we are very much in the passenger seat deciding where things will go. The most powerful weapon we have in our arsenal, and have always had, is ourselves.

The scripted nature only applies to the material universe itself. More specifically - our physiological systems and the endless minutiae of processes which keep us afloat, but go completely unnoticed - both at the micro and macro scopic scales. It doesn't apply for what you will do next, or what you will think. This is what makes us so unlike anything else in the material universe. We can actually ask questions of our own matrix structure of reality.

Wow... that's hard-core, but okay. RESULTS: The thing is, what if the information is false... the OTHER thing is... what if it's true. That means this has all been basically predestined including your reply or silence... wow... you were right all along... "Mind blown." System shut-down.

I think you both might be missing the formidable power that is inherent in human nature. While the universe may have the upper hand, human nature knows no bounds when it attempts to spew hatred, seek revenge, or risk everything for self-survival.

If life weren't in favour of humans, then we wouldn't exist. The universe will more than likely "reshuffle" the deck in a few billion years from now, and our kind may only be a cosmic folktale (hopefully a good one by that time).

But, doesn't that relegate us to basically soldier ants simply following our scripted nature? How can we rise above that? I want to do more than just question my existence - not that I don't have a lot of questions...

@MarkPaul True in the sense that everything in the universe behaves according to its own nature, its own behavioural script, as it were. We just happen to have found ourselves in the middle of it all, asking questions.

Oh wow... chaud brings up a good point but now I really feel diminished... it's as though I'm just an instrument of nature.

hmmmm.... but that puts all the advantage on the side of the material universe... it's like the deck is stacked in favor of the "house."
