@voyelle: That's a good theory. All these doggies need homes (I got the pictures from an Adopt-A-Dog site) so I guess they used the ribbons to make them more appealing. Your answer is half-right. :)
@FeetAreFantastic: I did the test myself before I knew the answers and I guessed all female (which coincidentally, is also 50% wrong). So far, everyone has done equally well.

I thought that having the answer would help something click in some way, but I have looked at these pups so many times that I have absolutely lost any faith in my ability to guess dog gender. When I was little, I thought that all dogs were male and all cats were female... until I picked up my fluffy cat one day, who DID look like a girl without question, but he was DEFINITELY male. Mind blown.
Ha! You're thinking about this question in all kinds of ways that nobody else even approached. I wonder what it is that makes a boy dog think a human leg looks like a girl dog. The girls are on the left, boys on the right, by the way!

Well, imagine that - color coded. I wonder what that suggests about our ability to observe our surroundings and come to the correct conclusion.....
@lovelywarpedlemon Haha! I think I was sneaky in this and chose two girlish looking boy dogs. The boys are on the right, girls on the left. There was even a double-bluff with the bows, with the boy actually wearing the blue one.

I yield. I bet if you asked dogs to identify human males and females they would be far better at it than we are. However, I would not want this ability if it came in conjunction with the desire to latch on to random legs and . . . Again, I have a feeling that would significantly decrease my ability to remain employed. It might, however, be a splendid way to find a really frisky mate.
@Moonchild I know you wouldn't want stereotyping based on colour but I only noticed after I posted this that the girls wear blue and the boys wear red. I think because these dogs were all up for adoption and it's a good way of demonstrating gender without being indelicate!

This is unfair - dos get a sniff test. Imagine if humans had a sniff test. . . I wonder how my coworkers would feel if I got on my knees and started sniffing tails? My next question should be: What will happen first: A. Locating a female in estrus B. Getting fired. A. boy B. girl c. girl d. boy
Yeah, they are. And they all need homes! I got their pictures of an Adopt-a-dog website. I'd take them all if I could. And nope, I'd never seen him. He looks very philosophical!
