I'll Tell You My Opinion

Linda Sarsour is an activist of the highest caliber. She is eloquent, brave and fearless. The disgusting and vile attacks by the Far Right Islamophobes against her only indicate the fear that God has blessed her to strike in the hearts of such pitiful haters.

She is eloquent and brave. She also supports a fundamental religion that believes homosexuality should be punishable by death. I'm not willing to put her on a pedestal as a voice for the freedom I believe in.

Respectfully, homosexuality is a major sin not only according to Islam, but to all religions I know. Whether it's punishable by death or not is not an absolute penalty in Islam. Scholars differ on this matter.

Islam is a religion that calls for morality and what is good for society. Focusing on such matters and neglecting all other aspects of this religion is a narrow way of thinking.

Plus, regardless of her beliefs, she's a human who has the right to speak out. Those attacks on her are never justified.

@Madeleine: I agree many religions view homosexuality as a major sin. Westwood Baptist believe homosexuality is a major sin, but I believe you would in NO way support their message or suggest that they should be held up as an example of leadership and bravery. Those who merely chose to practice their religious beliefs by refusing to marry same sex couples have been routinely vilified and publicly called bigots and homophobes by the same people supporting Ms. Sarsour. That is my only point.
