I Believe Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Why are many people so quick to blame the internet and social media for the corruption of youth and the unlawful promotion of terrorist organisations? I have used the internet for years and not once have I ever seen anything like an invitation to join up with a cowardly mob of stupid, brutal, racist, and murderous terrorists. Any such activity on the internet could easily be traced to it's source leading to the rapid conviction of it's perpetrators.

I think they mean the "dark web" and most people can't get to that stuff.

Hi greenmountaingal. Do you really believe that? I'm sorry I am just not convinced for more than one reason. Firstly, a successful recruiting tool would have to be visible to all. There is nowhere to hide on the internet. Secondly it is not very difficult to close an offensive site down either by criminal proceedings against the management of the host or by a denial of service attack directed against the site itself. I am fairly sure there is only one internet and no URL or site description is hidden from Google. The sad truth I am afraid is that the terrorists live among us and harbour a disturbing grudge against our way of life and our freedoms. They are not necessarily of a foreign race or religion.

Hello Firechidist. I agree that these predators manipulate weak and vulnerable people to do their dirty work for them. We can't blame the internet for that any more than we could blame the mobile net or the iPhone. These tools serve the cause of freedom better than the cause of the the terrorists. They add to our freedom and strengthen our commerce and industry. What social media have you ever seen actively recruiting young people into terrorist activity?

They are predators and know how to pick targets and appeal to teenagers. I read A manuel on how these jihads recruit young men and women into their cult through social media and they are very organised and specific.
