I Have a Question

why do people like to be so repetitive? i just got a job in a calling center and im going thru training and my coworkers like to go back and forth in their chairs over and over again, or their legs over and over again, or they shake their legs for hrs, i find it really hard to learn not to mention the repetitiveness can drive me crazy, are they on some kind of meds that make them do it or what, i could understand it if they had parkinsons but im trying to learn and i cant, and dont say switch seats cause i get the same thing elsewhere, saying anything dont help, they just do whatever they want anyways and in calling centers its not like you can take the work home and study it there so why do they do it? i find it very annoying when im trying to learn, any suggestions?

It's a coping and stress relief mechanism.
It's difficult to sit still for 8+hrs a day listening to people complain and some customers are down right mean and this is a way people cope to maintain professionalism. There's nothing you can do about that.
You either focus on your work and ignore their movement or figure something else out which is really hard to do.
I've worked in a call center before we were only allowed 1-2 mini between calls for case notes. It was a very difficult job to do.

Also shaking your legs is good for blood circulation, there's serious risk of blood clots sitting all day long like that.

That must be a miserable job for someone your age. I did it when I was 39. I lasted one day.

It's a kinda defensive mechanism towards stress I guess, that their bodies do, and they were not aware of it. Just like swallowing spit, nail biting and others. By the time they realize it, it's too late and it would have transformed into a muscle memory. Other than that I can just think some
People have awful habit.

Maybe it's just nervous energy....just try to ignore them and do the best you can.
