Why is cooking considered an art, but baking a science?

much less tolerance in baking. you can't use 2-3/4 cups of something instead of 2-1/2. cooking in general tends to have much more slop/wiggle room.

Baking tends to be much more precise in its requirements, the chemical reactions need things to be in specific ratios.

I guess it's because in baking your measurements and ingredients have to be precise. Where as in cooking you can compromise.
