I hated lines. A good quick spanking is better, I think.

@Sharon: Must have been quite good fun to be a prefect in your school!

I suppose it was. ;)

I had to do that when I was in school. You would think after writing "I must be quiet" 100 times, I'd learn..lol

No. I wouldn't think so. I think it teaches nothing but resentment for the lazy way adults use to discipline kids. Does it really take so much longer to think of something more productive for the kids to do with their time. My favourite idea is to combine time with teaching.
100 math word problems will teach them that there are consequences for misbehaving and it will also give them practice doing something practical.
Writing anything over and over again teaches nothing. Well maybe it teaches how to be bored.

I found when I had to write lines, my handwriting got progressively worse, and if I misspelled a word one hundred times, that's how it is spelled for the rest of time.
I'd rather kids be given an assignment to read a chapter of a book and rewrite it in their own words,,to show comprehension. If a child can't learn he or she did something wrong by being given a sensible punishment then no amount of punishment can teach them anything. Saying I will not chew gun 100 times is just a time waster and teaches nothing.

We had lines at school

Good morning, Veronika. I'd probably consider this. I like mixing up their corrective action from time to time.

I also use this as an additional punishment, keeps them busy, and they hate it !

My sister had to do that the past weekend. Mom also beliefs in that.
