I Love To Contemplate Scripture

Luke 9:32-35: "Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but becoming fully awake they saw His glory and the two men standing with Him. As they were about to part from Him, Peter said to Jesus, 'Master, it is good that we are here; let us make three tents, one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.' But he did not know what he was saying. While he was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a shadow over them, and they became frightened when they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, 'This is My chosen Son; listen to Him.'"

How often do we become lukewarm in spirit? How often do we grow so complacent that we are able to say to ourselves "my merits are good enough"? How often do we deceive ourselves and lull ourselves into a sleep, just as Peter, James, and John had done while Jesus was being transfigured before their eyes? The truth is, no human being has been, is, nor ever will be perfect, with the exception of the Blessed Mother of course, and we'd be deceiving ourselves if we were to develop this "good enough" attitude. And after we lull ourselves into this sleep, when we're eventually awakened and put before Christ's glory, we hardly know what to say. We see how stained even our greatest works are in comparison to His. We cannot compete with Jesus. The Father tells Peter, James, and John that "This is My chosen Son" and to "listen to Him". While our falling asleep is the problem, the solution is to listen to our Lord, Jesus Christ. Follow the Blessed Mother's example in surrendering yourself completely to the Lord's Will, and you will see miracles unfold before your eyes, not because of your own merits, but solely because of the Lord's and because of His great, fathomless love toward you.
