I 60's Canings

At my junior school, if you did anything wrong you got a detention (one lady teacher in particular gave detentions for extremely minor things). If you got four detentions in one term you were caned. In my first year I remember a boy in my class bursting into tears when he was given a fourth detention. But he wasn't actually caned, because his parents intervened to prevent it. I thought this was very unfair. If I had ever got four detentions, my parents would have expected me to take my punishment.
