Is hating the hatred an effective way to conqour it?

I am seriously struggling with this paradox of sorts. I advocate for the liberal mind, for compassion and altruism, for tolerance.. but how am I to tolerate he who holds a begrudging hatred for me over the nature of how I lie? How am I to love THIS person as a human being? I don't. If it were in my power, I would change this person into having an evolved perspective and world view. Is that tolerant? Honestly, no, it's rather hypocritical of me, and confounding as well, because the line that they would draw and the line that I would draw are not even on the same plane.

A different point of view is not always hatred....

@JollyRoger: Because the haters and the hatred is taking over, and I can't seem to accept this notion of everything in turn when it comes to love and hate. =( Hate is wrong. Hate had it's day, days of many. It did no one any bit of good. I feel that in light of the succession of the alt right, in places all around the world, and now in a major superpower, that anything actually sacred we might have been is now being abandoned.

the problem is that we have been conditioned to think anything contrary to MY point of view is hatred. News Flash: Contrary views are good for society! As has been observed: When everyone thinks alike - no one is thinking at all.

@mougywolf: You appear to harbor no hope! When you lose hope you lose foresight - a way to see into the future! Darkness is 'nothingness' Darkness cannot prevail because it has nothing to offer (in the case of the Alt-Right - they have nothing to offer either except to destroy that which they don't understand (more lost hope). My suggestion: Hang in there, real change will come and (although it may cause us to fight through a period of hatred) light will prevail. If you read the Bible you can see this darkness is temporary. I am not of the opinion that Armageddon is about to descend upon us, but many are! I am prepared to fight for my right to live, my duty to protect others and for my right to freedom... I do not have to "hate" those whom I fight against, but I may have to work my way around them, cut them down at times, teach them at other times even. You can't do that if you lose "hope." So: Are you a SURVIVOR? Do you have a will to live? Do you still see a future for your family? If you do, then you, me and many others can still affect a change for the better of those around us and IF we give them hope then they will join us - even some from the Alt-Right will join us because they too are looking for "hope."

AND: Hippyjoe: You are right again when you say, "Contrary views are good for society! As has been observed: When everyone thinks alike - no one is thinking at all."

My theory is, don't let them take up your thought or irritate you. Live and let live because it would truly be a waste to try to change someone who cannot and will not ever understand we're all the same animal.
