I Am a Computer Geek

Ok. What are the differences between and the relative advantages and disadvantages of usb and gpib connections? I assume that usb stands for universal serial bus and gpib for general purpose interface bus.

So, you're trying to create a signal using ArbExpress, and then transfer it to a waveform generator, using a USB connector. I believe that the current generation of BK function generators, uses USB as an interface.

So, if you have one of those, and you're running ArbExpress on your PC, using a USB connector, between the PC and the BK generator, it should work fine.

I have not used a waverform generator for years, but I think that once you have the NI-VISA driver downloaded and installed, all you have to do is select it, as the "wire" transfer mechanism, for ArbExpress, and you're good to go (as in, ArbExpress will recognize it, or you may to manually select from the list, from within ArbExpress).

The differences are price (USB is a tiny fraction of the price of a GPIB connector), size (USB is a tiny fraction of a GPIB connector), speed (USB's 10Gbps, versus GPIB's 64Mbps), applicability (USB is near universal, GPIB, perhaps aging lab equipment).

An apples to oranges comparison.
