I Have Insomnia

I sleep well most of the time but have periods where I just don't seem to be able to sleep at all. I'm guessing this is related to bouts of depression but I know sometimes it's just down to my mind being overactive late in the day when I should be relaxed and ready to sleep. I find my creativity is often at its best during the night when this happens. My doctor has prescribed a mild sedative to use during these times, so it's rarely an issue now, though I do miss the the odd occasions when I resorted to playing guitar right through the night.
Yes, that's how it goes.

I don't play the guitar. I just read or watch movies but I'd love to have a more organized sleeping pattern.

I think part of the problem for me is that I like being up late, even though I shouldn't.
Same here🙄

Hmmm... I just noticed it's past 4am... oops! ;-)

I'm more creative at night too, but we just gotta make ourselves get the rest our body needs! 😕 I'm glad the sedative is working for you. 💤

@Peaches Thank you. Actually I haven't needed to take the sedative for several months now so my sleeping patterns have definitely improved. Whether it will stay that way is less certain but I'm hoping so!

@fazer1k I hope so too! 😊
You need rest and sleep to recharge. I am glad you have found a balance. I think creativity comes best at night as it is quiet and our minds are more relaxed.

@PoetryNEmotion My sleeping patterns are much better than they were but the creativity aspect doesn't always help, in the sense part of me likes to take advantage of that during the early hours but I know I must avoid doing that. I certainly feel more relaxed at night so perhaps that is what boosts creativity. 🙂

I think all sufferers of insomnia have bursts of wild creativity late at night. That is when I write my best stuff! 👍

Yes, not being able to sleep is a pain but the creative moments are certainly a plus! There's something empowering about being fully awake when everything around me is in quiet slumber but I've never really figured out why it feels that way.
