I Write Poetry

Moonlight over the Aegean

The waves slosh against the wooden hull,
This old boat moored far from shore,
The flickering lights of campfires,
Shadowy figures in muffled voices rise.

Athenian clouds bathed by moonlight,
Scream by me as I gather speed,
Cloth whispers in the breeze,
Pulling me toward my destiny.

Sweaty brow pounding chest I close my eyes,
The starry sky frames the pursuers.
Near the end I gasp aloud.
Opening my eyes to the new morning.
