I Write Poetry

My Son

The first time your heart beat inside of me
My Son
The hope and dreams I had for you
My Son
The whole world I will fight for you
My Son

I willed you to walk and talk and play
My Son
I never gave up hope for you
My Son
I saw the world was hard for you
My Son

Did other people always notice too?
My Son
Did they know God chose a different path for me and you?
My Son
Do they ever consider life in our shoes?
My Son

I don't want them to label you
My Son
The world tells me it's what's best for you
My Son
To me you will only ever be
My Son

Behaviour, exclusion, support, challenging
My Son
Their cruel poor choice of words
My Son
Amazing, unique, determined, overwhelmed, surviving, progressing
My Son

Today they may try to make you something else
My Son
Reduce you to a word
My Son
But you are greater than the sum of social constructs.
You are
You have always been
You remain
My Son

A nice tribute from a loving mother to a truly precious child. He's lucky to have you. It was really to nice to read and see your love for him. Thank you _/|_

Yeah it wasn't very poetic though I was just full of emotion yesterday

No worries - the true core of poetry is not really about rhythm or form, but rather expressing emotions and in my book, you were great at it. Hugs to you.

You express just how every mother feels about their child and the trials they have to face...made me think of my son with a smile..

I'm with ghauzy. Steerpike just doesn't see it. Pay no heed. Your message is clearly and freshly and powerfully expressed. More please :)

Not poetry - gushings

May I see your credentials?

And if it were 'gushings' and not poetry, would it be the right thing to do to respond to a person'so heartache and gushings with a critique of where they decided to post it.

Poetry is as much a social construct as autism.

So today I don't really want to deal with narrow minded people who have nothing helpful to say.
