I Am British

I absolutely hate what Britain has become. But after everything, all the strife and horrible decisions in this place, I'm just tired. I'm tired of everything now. But, I can hope that we'll be fine. One day.

I walked home from work on Friday and felt like I was in a foreign country. I don't recognise this place any more. When home no longer feels like home, it's time to find a new home.
Honestly, the weariness and disgust you feel appears to be almost universal in Western Civilization, and I think it traces to the growth of government and overbearing taxes on citizens. Increasingly civilization has become nothing more than people struggling to survive, handing most of the fruits of their labor to the government, and government then pisses 80% of that money away through bad incentives, huge organizations that accomplish nothing, and completely ineffective administration of what few programs might help people. Government now tinkers with private decision making through huge numbers of stupid, overlapping, contradictory, and pointless laws and regulation. I think people feel a loss of control in their lives, a loss of personal freedom, and a pointlessness of contributing into such bad social systems.

If you had a significant other as defective as the government in most countries, you would drop her/him because she/he sucks the life out of you. We all want to do that with our governments, but we cannot and that creates a growing sense of despondency.

We will my sweet.. i promise.. and i dont make promises i dont truly believe.. for sure we have many problems.. and not least the reduced respect we seem to have for each other these days.. but we have an indominable spirit and sense of fair play.. most people are good.. most of the time.. the idiots and assoles dont generally succeed here and they do generally come unstuck x

@Adaydreambeliever Those idiots succeeded with the referendum, but whatever. Just my opinion.

@DickValentine They shouldn't be necessary, but now because a stupid decision was made, half of the UK population is in utter terror, and rightly so, about the future. People want out of the UK. I don't blame them. I want out too.

Without hope, everything really is lost, isn't it? As the nationalist/populist/imperialist/whateveryouwannacallitist movements are sweeping the globe, it doesn't appear to be so hopeful in the short term. However, in the long term, love and hope will triumph over hate and fear.

@RoboChloe On that walk, I saw a car pass with two England flags draped from it. Not even Union Jacks. Just the cross of St. George. They don't even want us being in union with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. I hate it.

@GlassDog I felt the exact same way these last few days. The only thought in my mind was "More than half of these people voted to doom the UK"...

I feel much the same. The prospect of more EU debates and Scottish independence referendums just makes me so weary....

I've just spent ten minutes looking up English speaking nations. Anyone up for Gibraltar...? :P
