Cable and FIOS TV soon to be dinosaurs

They've been ripping us off for years. It won't be long until all entertainment arrives at home via the internet. There is plenty now and will only increase. The government has permitted this travesty that costs the average household $2,500 annually. Add mobile phone bills or the same or more and we are over $5K annually. At most internet and cellular should be $1K per household per year. The government has allowed them to rip us off and has been collecting several layers of tax on this travesty.

I haven't had a TV since 2004 when we both realized that there was NOTHING ON, no matter how many channels there were. We just lived on the Internet from that point forward.

I don't care about sports so that's not an issue; I'm not sure how sports fans without TVs deal with this. Netflix in Canada is hobbled badly by licensing bullshit, but the US version is a lot better. I like the exploration of new formats that the Internet's allowing. You don't realize what a straitjacket the television format is in determining the structure of the programming. Also, no FCC regulations mean more creativity.

My internet comes via a DIY point-to-point wireless link across 2 km of water to a business we pay to let us use their utility shed to house our (unfortunately cable company) router. You have to jury rig if you live out here.

I'm pretty sick of cable. 500 channels and nothing to watch 99% of the time. They repeat shows 500 times or show shows that are so stupid you wonder who TH watches them. And to get the one or two channels you might actually watch you have to buy one of the upper tier packages. Freaking rip off.
