I might regret this question, but don't we all have an ego?

ego
[ee-goh, eg-oh]

Examples
Word Origin

1.
the “I” or self of any person; a person as thinking, feeling, and willing, and distinguishing itself from the selves of others and from objects of its thought.
2.
Psychoanalysis. the part of the psychic apparatus that experiences and reacts to the outside world and thus mediates between the primitive drives of the id and the demands of the social and physical environment.

"Through popular interpretations of Eastern traditions like the Course In Miracles or Eckart Tolle’s approach, these days we tend to associate ego with unhealthy and troublesome self-consciousness and self-infatuation—ego as egomania or being egotistical."
Still, I guess it remains a confusing term even beyond that...
Thank you and I think that is what people do mean

Seems to sort-of answer what you're saying, although I don't like that article at all, I think it's his ego talking... haha!
'Tell someone “that’s your ego talking” and they’re bound to interpret it as a criticism' - this has a couple of problems, first of all "ego talking" isn't the same as "It's bad that you have an ego", it's just "You didn't temper your ego by your sensibilities" or "You let your ego grow too big". Secondly, as Humpty Dumpty as it is, when people use words they mean what they mean, not what the archaic dictionary definition is. (Granted, I sometimes enjoy pointing out either way). But yes, certainly, some people do think having an ego is a bad thing or something one shouldn't have, rooted on mistaken interpretations of statements like that and those short motivational quotes, to be sure. I think the context should give out what they really mean and not be something to truly get fussed up about, though.
@Faust76: No, not worth fussin' if you figure out what is meant.

Yes and those who claim to have no ego are full of it
I think they are using ego interchangeably with egotism?
SW-User
Yes I believe that to be the case as well
@TheCaterpillar: I guess many people do. I struggle with proper word origin syndrome. ;) I try not to be assy about it. I sometimes think in very literal terms.

Not sure why but when I see the word ego I always think of eggos. 🤔
