Hello everyone. I am Roddy15 and have just come over from EP. I write poetry, articles, short stories and satire. I am also learning photography. I love meeting new and interesting people. Becoming disabled has definitely had a very bizarre effect on my sense of humour.

Dear just peace and lovr
thank you for your beautiful note, accepting that your life is no longer what it was or will ever be again, was really tough for me, probably for Roddy also, I fought for ten years trying everything to find a cure, for a rare neurological illness that put me down at 55 years of age, it was so rare that nobody knew about it yet, and I tried every alternative thing I could find, nothing worked.
The Universe was knocking hard on my shell but I was too stubborn to give up, finally I had to either give up or leave this planet by my own hands, and with a family, I could not do that! The only choice left was to surrender to the pain and fatigue, and make friends with it, which I was able to do, and coexist,
I did not get well, but I got some peace of mind, and some relief from the sufferering I was putting on myself with my mind. Someone said, "Pain is necessary, suffering is optional" that is my manta from now on,
I am now almost 81 years young, and I love my life, and I never thought I would live this long and have such a great life! But I learned to do what I could do and found a way to complete myself, EP was a big part of that, as I am a retired psychotherapist, and I have been helping people on EP for several years
And it makes me feel useful and valuable again!

I was fine until just over 7 years ago when I got a virus which put me in hospital for a year. I am now a full time wheelchair driver but fortunately it did not impair my brain. I find humour in most things which helps. I would find it dificult to cope if I didn't laugh.

Roddy15, welcome to SW, I think you will like it, it definitely has made progress, since it opened and
Continues to do so!
I, like you had an illness later in life that left me not able to do the things that I had always done, and it is quite an adjustment, it took me 10 years of suffering before I gave up and realized that this is my life now,
And I better start thinking about what I can do, rather than what I can't! Which shows how stubborn I am,
But I finally learned to coexist with my illness and embrace it rather than fight it, and that changed things for me, I didn't get well, but I got some peace about my life!
So glad to hear that you have adjusted to your life so quickly.
Darlingrose .

I have discovered that becoming disabled seems to habe one of two effects. The person either adapts amd learns to deal with it, through sensecof humour or finding a creative outlet. Or they becvome bitter and angry andcthink thast the world should treat them special, because after all, they deserve it.

Congrats on being one of the first kind.
I look forward to reading what you write.

Hi Roddy, I'm not sure what you mean by being disabled. I've been on disability for a while for physical disabilities but I can still do a lot of things. I'm not in a wheel chair or anything like that. I don't like the title 'disabled'. It's makes one think they're limited.

Roddy and Darlingrose I'd like to thank you both for giving me a gift. You both confirmed for me my opened mind. I'm grateful to you both. I recently went through a period of lost, not in my own physical body but the lost of other bodies. :) I had to learn all seeming lost is temporary. Accepting is the answer for me. TY for your courage!

Thank you Darlingrose... You are a miracle... I too suffered unnecessarily.... If only if listened to the people who were telling me... We are so very stubborn sometimes... It doesn't help being Italian either... Lol... Much Love to you... :) <3
