Growing up, who did you idolize?

Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Oh i had a few.
Some, well known like Martin Chivers the Tottenham striker of the day. Sir Chris Bonnington the mountaineer who climbed Everest. Barry Sheen the motorcycle rider who having come off his bike and had his leg pinned together after a bad crash, then went on to become a world champion.
Red Adair the American oil fire fighter who was splashed all over the news for a few days after some amazing exploit !
But as i grew older my heroes became people i knew !
There was an old man in my street i used to do odd jobs for as a teen. One day i caught him polishing his medals for the upcoming Rememberance Day parade.
He had loads of them ! Never occurred to me this quiet old man was a war hero ! He had seen action in three continents ! Very few could say that !!
The old lady who was a friend of my great aunt. Very staunch, Very 'prim and proper'. I was always on my best behaviour around this lady. She was of their Edwardian generation, so was treated respectfully.
She once asked my why i was looking so 'glum'(her word) I said i was trying to study something for an exam in school next week and couldn't make the information 'stick' to memory.
That old lady had me sat with her every afternoon for a week teaching me the best way to remember dates and details !!!
Brilliant ! As i passed with an 'A' in a subject i was predicting a 'C' in !!!

no one but myself
Besides my mother, Emma Peel (played by Diana Rigg) from the tv show The Avengers. She and Barbara Bain (Cinnamon Carter from Mission Impossible) were the only two "badarse" women I was seeing on tv in those days.
