Did we use social media the wrong way?

In the same sentiments there are people who will go out and volunteer for one thing after another and neglect the people in their family who need help. I had a sister who did that, she kept busy, busy, busy with all her volunteering so she wouldn't have to get her hands dirty helping people when they needed it the most.

That is true but we are also introduced to different types of peoples and cultures this way.

I assume those people that want to be noticed go out where other people that want to be noticed gather.
