Do you celebrate Christmas?
I used to when I was really young. Mum was the type of parent and person that loved all sorts of holidays, and it honestly seemed that her mental health was the most endurable during that time.
As soon as it was December first she would begin hanging up the lights and making her house the brightest on the street. Every year my sister and I got a Hallmark Christmas tree ornament ( a tradition I would like to start up again one day), and we'd decorate our tree. The entire house would be full with decorations, and each day we'd watch a movie and cook something.
I loved Christmas, and like I said it was one of the only times her mental illness didn't take hold. Sometimes, she could afford a ton of gifts, other times we were lucky to have anything.
It all changed after she died, and no Christmas was ever the same or even good. This year, I plan to change it though and try and have a good one.
But I don't really celebrate it anymore, not since there isn't much family left to do so with.
