Don't you wish you could help a vicitm of Spousal Abuse?

I have a friend who is married to one of the worst spousal abusers I have heard of. And I know what I am talking about having been the victim myself.

The last couple of days broke my heart. She is trying to leave him, and oh my goodness, the things he was / is doing to her. Sleep Deprivation, Forcing conversation (If she tried to ignore him he pours cold water over her), Harassment, Gaslighting (making here doubt her memory, perception, and sanity), Emotional Blackmail, Denial, Blaming, constant Criticism and Twisting, Manipulation and the ubiquitous Victim card (you are destroying my life). The list goes on.

I really care for her and have been in almost constant contact over the past few days trying to support her as best as I could. I have seen her demeanor nose dive from determined (still scared) to virtually destroyed and defeated. I am afraid to say, possibly suicidal.

And I know I am powerless to help my friend.

Sounds like my mother and father.

Sadly she allowed him to strip her from all respect. She will probably stay with him until the end.

I think that you might be underestimating your own power to help.

The problem is that she is a internet friend and lives in the USA. Here in Oz, there is a large network and legal protection. Friends can report the abuse. Which in genuine cases is great, but has been abused in vexatious or frivolous ways.
