How does your significant other affect you?

As in are they like a delicious meal you crave and need or are they like a tasty treat that you don't need but could totally enjoy frequently or like a pet, fun and cuddly sometimes and other times it's like stfu and get away from me? Help me understand please.

We have an agreement that we each are responsible for our own happy in life. So I can't make him wrong in life for my not been happy. This works in our getting along, we are more friendly than most couples, we don't allow nasty to be present, if it is we call each other out on any nasty that can take hold after 19 years together.
We do stuff together and stuff apart, this way we can talk on many aspects of life.
We are lucky not to have in-laws live close, does help.....

It's a bit of all of that for me, although after 16 years together it is much more profound than simple comparisons can reflect.
