Oh they work but you have to have trust & willing to commit to that person.

They can work, but I believe they usually don't because it is very hard to maintain. For it to have a chance of working there are some needed things like knowing you will eventually meet that person and that it won't be long distance forever, and you need to fully trust them as you will not be able to see them regularly and also it is important for the people to always make time for each other. :) It is unlikely, but not impossible. I have seen youtube videos of couples who are successful after long distance but it is only worth it if both people put effort into it.
