Relationships now vs later?

When people get into relationship, it is normal to think about what the future holds. I mean, after all what exactly is the goal of being in a relationship? To build a family etc etc right?

Me on the other hand, never thought about that anymore. Not after what happened in my past relationship.
So, I met this guy over a year ago and I know if I think about our future, it won't work because we both live in completely different worlds but for now, we are so great together. I dont want to think about what's gonna happen later because honestly, I dont even know what's gonna happen to me in say, 2-3 hours from now? Lol.. And I don't want the thought of tomorrow stops me from being happy today. He thinks it won't be fair for both of us. I said, when the time comes, we deal with it. In the meantime, why can't we be the way we are and just be happy? Live in the now I always say.

I don't want to spend my life thinking about "what ifs" or "if only" and let my fear and worry control me of being happy and in love.

Am I making any sense at all? Lol 馃榾

no. you cant live a life that hasnt happened... i never want kids. theres too many bad people out there for me to want to add to that. marriage isnt about having kids.. you can have kids outside of marriage.. marriage is about choosing to stay with a person, instead of just having flings with many people. the reason a lot of marriages dont work is the amount of selfish behaviors a lot of people have. of coarse theres also crazy psycho people too, narcissist and control freaks aswell as too many people who just cheat on their spouse. and then theres the addictions that ruin relationships as well. marriage is like a friendship some work and some dont or people just drift apart. you date people and see if you click with anyone. when you marry hopefully you marry a good friend and not someone who is just faking the relationship. relationships are hard. it takes work and compromise. if you dont nurture it. it dies.

nah.. the what ifs are just delusional thinking and hopeful thinking. the only thing real is the here and now.

@theowl: here and now :) you got it.
FunReader5551-55, M
@PaintedVeil: not all, i know many many confident, powerful, women, but many women view the husband slot as fillable by any warm male body willing to take it. then adopt all of his interests as her own and drop all of hers. while it might seem a bit diatomic to maintain one's individuality at the exact moment of starting a new union but nothing could be further from the truth. you each stay who you are but just join as partners. and wow is that a lot of words!! I've been up for almost 40 hour. and i'm not a doctor!! i just have a crazy ass sister in law that forces me to learn this shit!! lol!!

You make a lot of sense to me. I'm kind of afraid to go out on dates. If the date works out you go on another date. If you seem compatible you keep going out, you're dating. What's expected is it will progress to engagement then marriage. I admit my exwife is the stuff nightmares are made of, a narcissist. But getting into that again is very scary!

Sorry to hear about your ex-wife trauma. My ex- husband isnt really that far from it either, hence I crowned him the "ex" title 馃榾

It amuses me how everyone thinks I should find another "promising" fella because they are concern about my "future" lol.. well the heart wants what it wants! 馃槄

@PaintedVeil: Sorry your marriage was also a lesson in why being married is bad! Oh yeah gotta be married! Hell no give the heart what it wants.
PaintedVeil41-45, F
@1961dave: yup looks like we are in the same "ex" boat lol..
once people learn that nothing lasts forever, then they will understand and learn how to enjoy, appreciate and simply live! (and love... and laugh!) 馃榾

Perfect sense. Living in the moment is something that 90% of people very rarely do. For my money it's by far the best way to live. :)
LachrymoseLamer51-55, M
@PaintedVeil: That's good to hear. All we ever have is "now" and most people completely ignore it!
And it has to be said that sleeping in and/or waking late is one of the best ways to enjoy the moment. Doing nothing is, after all, the ultimate luxury. ;) Hehe.
PaintedVeil41-45, F
@LachrymoseLamer: you are absolutely right! good to know you are "awake" ;)

@PaintedVeil: :)

I will admit relationships from the start are totally different as one gets comfortable and gets to know each other. I wouldnt want to change who my wife is but there are certainly many aspects that would be changed. Live with no regrets though

Thank you. Much appreciated. 14 years so far, not holding my breath but never know right
PaintedVeil41-45, F
@BearDownChicago: that is amazing. My marriage only lasted for 3 years and one of the reasons was definitely the intimacy. Your wife is lucky!

I feel for you. Trust me it is hard and frustrating. But what can I say....
FunReader5551-55, M
I say this about all future relationships. you should always focus 100% on making yourself happy and getting yourself to wherever it is your going. be 100% completely reliable upon yourself. then if the right partner comes along you will be able to choose them based solely on whether you actually want them around or not.

I couldnt agree more. You are so right!

Not everyone entering into a relationship wants a
family.
PaintedVeil41-45, F
@NigelDoes: well by all means Sir, enlighten me! 馃
NigelDoes56-60, M
Please call me mate or dude. :-) Sir is way too formal. I simply meant that I knew by the age of 16 that I never wanted kids, and it's not that I don't like kids.
PaintedVeil41-45, F
@NigelDoes: well, i never wanted kids because i dont like them lol :D
bamaboylick61-69, M

PaintedVeil41-45, F
