i asked this as a question and got no answer so i'll post it here. does anyone know what state and part of that state wanted to do the same thing as west virgnia did when the rest the state left the union and why were they unable to?

I didnt know about California. I know that ky and md were prevented from doing it because the army sent soldiers into both. Md because that our them dead center in the miidle enemy territory
