Help please, America-landers: 'Executive Orders' - what weight do they carry, how quickly are they enacted, and have there ever been so many as the last few days?

@Greenbare: Thank you. While keeping an open mind, the BBC may have its leanings, but it tries to cover all aspects of news. Can't speak for BBC America as I only listen-watch BBC in the UK.

@Greenbare: as a public funded organisation, their charter requires them to steer carefully on this. They claim that whilst some programmes might be 'left', others are 'right' etc to balance out. Who can really tell. Generally, I find BBC useful and interesting. With caution of course.
Executive orders happen all the time

They have the same legal effect as a law

Most are temporary

Most relate to instructions related to executing another law

Executive orders can be reversed by another order.

Most executive orders are never publicized

President Trump is providing transparency ... so we are actually seeing them

The media reports on every sneeze from the white house ... so, we are blessed with extra editorials.

Most of the executive orders this week just reverse executive orders of the prior president.

What is uniguely different, is how these orders have been written ... these have been immediately executable, due to clarity. Normal orders are tributes to the silly world attorneys live in ... they are usually nuianced, vague and confusing to implement.
@Stereoguy:

I do too ... so do my neighbors

Go Trump!

As far as I know. A executive order is the faster way to get a pledge into a reality without having all the delay by going through the usual process.

It doesn't need the approval of congress and it still holds the same weight as one that was approved by congress.

But it can be stopped by Supreme Court judge if its unconstitutional.

or congress can make it difficult for trump but that's unlikely.

Good that you are asking this question, more people should be curious. We did some reading as a family about this yesterday. --DW
