Ever wonder what other nations think of yours?

In Norway, we stereotype Brits as generally super polite and sweet, but apparently other people stereotype them as the opposite lol.
Also fun to see how the way Americans consider themselves and their country to be often differs from what most Europeans think.

Where are you from, and do you have any stereotypes about Norway or Norwegians? Dying to know lol.

Norwegians are seen as good strong people with a sense of humour, I'm from Wales, we are seen as passionate, friendly and unfortunately" Sheep shaggers"

Don't worry - we only see the Scots (and New-Zealanders) as "sheep shaggers". 馃槀馃槀 Welsh people are looked on as passionate and friendly, yeah. I also think of Fairy Tales when I think of Wales.

I've only met a couple of Norwegians but they were strong in body and mind! Also, straightforward to deal with and health conscious.

America...when I think of Norwegians I think of but then I've been watching Vikings on the History Channel the past four years. Obviously that's a big stereotype of Norwegians since even the TV program has a variety of individuals- not just the blonde haired ones - playing characters.

As for what Europeans thinks of Americans, I really don't think about it much at all. Not really important to me.

Our stereotype about Norwegians is sex-obsessed alcoholics :)

(Sadly the sex-obsessed is mostly a spillover from being next to Sweden, I think, and the alcoholics from the price of alcohol in Norway...)

This has turned into an interesting post as an English guy I can tell you that on the whole we are polite but there are many people here who are not. As for Norwegians, well educated, polite and generally chilled out.

@ajoite: No, that was mostly us Norwegians. Look at a map, and you see just how little contact Sweden has (and had) with the open ocean; the sea-faring vikings were mostly from Denmark and Norway. Even the name is rumored to come from Norway (Vikin having been a place in Norway, -ng ending meaning "person from ____").

@NorthernRoses: RIGHT! I've spent alot of time looking into this and Swedish Vikings definitely came to England, not Wales, not many Vikings came to Wales, they missed us and went to Ireland.
Can't find you a good sentence from a book or webpage but you can look at " Swedish Vikings in England" by Sven B.F Jansson
It gets a bit complicated because most Vikings were referred to as Danes, no matter where they were from, also I didn't know that the Swedish Vikings founded Russia, well there you go, unless of course the Swedish tourist board is lying to me 馃

We always see ourselves different from others. Our perspectives are different.

Norwegians are a nice northern bred, They have long boats and are ruled by Thor.

Norwegians are polite, stoic, and helpful as far as the stereotypes go.
