Are you okay with equal rights as long as it doesn't inconvenience your own life?

SW-User
Why would somebody else's rights inconvenience me?

@KaliKali: It's easy to call other people out, but you need to take a look at yourself instead.

@MartinTheFirst: I wasn't calling anyone out, and who said I don't look at my own behavior and the impact it has on others?

@KaliKali: you're calling out the entire western world, but yeah
I'm fine.. I'm oozing with White privledge 😎👍

I'm a white man, equality will come at some of my own social power and I'm totally cool with that.
That's a really good question. I can see both sides. In my lifetime, I've been involved in protests, pickets, sit-ins, marches etc. But at no time did we do anything but draw attention to the actions of specific companies or organizations who weren't hiring or promoting women and people of color, who were treating some customers differently than others, etc. We didn't block public roads or transportation and interfere with working people trying to get to and from their jobs to earn a living. We also understood the value of alliances with other struggling groups.

This is an interesting one because I'm really in favour of disruptive protest. If the country cannot function because the economy is shut down, your demands will be met very quickly. Same deal with general strikes. Impolite protest has a proven track record, even if it makes the protestors monumentally unpopular.

I am a fan of inalienable rights but not equal rights. Equal rights are never equal.

What do you think is meant by "equal rights?"
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Equal rights require an arbitrator to determine if you are equal or not thus there is no equality there.
thinkincubes · 41-45
who wouldn't be?

Most of the Western world.

If there is no inconvenience? I don't buy that. Most people would gladly agree to progressive decisions if they were sure their own life would stay just as comfy.

@TragicMonkey: "If there is no inconvenience?" ... "if they were sure their own life would stay just as comfy."

no, i like to see people fight for their rights.
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
Yeah I love equal rights, as long as no one tells us how our personalities should be I am fine. The only thing I'd hate, is if they'd try to dictate how couples should live their relationship.
