[c=#7700B2]The purpose is to send the bad people straight to jail. The premises are the places to catch them. Sometimes they rob and kill people or hurt people badly. [/c]

I think the idea is that if they see the sign they won't break in, steal, and hurt or murder people in the first place because they know there's a good chance they'll be caught on camera.
ITs a private area and so far I know you have to put such a sogn up, otherwise you will get in trouble becouse you mad pics/ videos of someone without their permission. Sounds stupid I know but here in Germany there have been some problems with such things
@Diyanne: In the UK, I believe premises with CCTV must show those signs so they might be there because there is CCTV. The point is, you can't be sure there isn't. ;)
