I'm Concerned About Population Control

I don't agree with what the woman's sign says, but if ever some type of population control, a book I read not so long ago suggested a very humane way to implement population control.

In this book, a very determined scientist _created a virus that would render 1/3 of the planets population will decrease each gener[qde|ation until the Earth has not too many many but not so few that we'd be in danger of extinction, because I imagine that other geneticist would be working to stop that extinction from happening. Creating something to make humans suffer and die is simply not right. With too many bodies laying around, diseases would run rampant, and it'd smell simply aweful! And how do you dispose of the bodies you can without polluting the planet any further? There wouldn't be enough ground to bury them all in.

@sacksbackagain: In some cases yes, in all cases none of them work as hard as ants. It is more about what you do than how hard you do it. To some extent you could say that rich people are rich because they keep doing the same things that got them rich in the first place, ditto for the poor. That does not cover everyone but it does cover more than you think. If you are poor and look at that as societies problem to solve rather than yours then that will be your first problem to overcome.

But then you end up with the mess that you get in the U.S. where they don't even teach sex ed in schools anymore !!
Throwing contraception at folk doesn't work effectively.
How many posts on here from folk who say they like NOT using a condom ?
Maybe. By way of alternate idea.
Maybe it should be a compulsory op. at the age of 10/11. For both sexes to have their tubes tied until such time as they are able to comprehend the consequences of unprotected sex??

@NearMiss: You are right the United States population growth is at an historical low level as the United States current birth rates are the lowest ever recorded. The US is not contributing to overpopulation, all this without any kind of forced government control.

Everyone who survived the black plague had three times as much wealth as they did before. Do those ends justify the means? Also, it's really, really easy to dispose of bodies in a space efficient manner when you cremate them all, as Hitler found out during WWII.

They may have survived but I doubt there's any evidence to suggest they were wealthier because of it!

When over 2/3 of the common folk die, there's a bit of a land grab. Yeah, it might not be resources that retain all of their value (e.g. farmland that goes untended), but it's definitely something.

Eugenics is a really dodgy issue.
Where do you start ?
I sometimes think it's a shame creating life is as easy as it is when you're young.
If humans became more fertile the older they got, they'd have (hopefully) accumulated sufficient wisdom to know if it was such a good idea !

Maybe that's the solution: alter our genetics so that we're not fertile until the age of, say 20-25. Then, we'll get all the good side effects of birth control for free lol
