I got in a fight at school today and got detention for tomorrow. My mom and dad want to punish me too. Do you think it's fair?

I know juggling "school society", can be very difficult.. But fighting is simply never a good idea. I understand it could be in self defense, defense of someone else.. But fights can escalate (especially at ur age) into serious violence and injury. Your parents are worried for ur physical safety, as well as (I am sure) setting a standard for u to learn "other" ways to navigate tense social predicaments.. Therefore the punishment.. I think u should except their punishment and have an honest sit down with them regarding the incident. Telling them what caused it, ask them how they would handle it (at your age)?.. And be honest about their suggestions why they could or could not work in ur "school world".. U might be surprised and pick up some tips.. and they may go a little easier on u if they sense ur sincerity. Good luck.

Yes. I KNEW when I fought at school (few and far between), I was going to get grounded when I got home. School isn't for fighting, it's for learning.

Better get prepared. You know she's not going to be happy about it. And, if you do fight in school, it should only be if someone else starts ****. Then, you have to defend yourself. But don't be the one starting things.

They're your parents, fair or not. Whatever we say here will not affect what happens. Best learn to behave according to their standards or accept the consequences because until you grow up and are able to support yourself, that will be your world.

By the way, I empathize with wanting to beat up a school snitch. Who wouldn't want to? But It's not the best way to handle it. I'll bet that snitching student is not very popular! In a school, when you break rules, you are risking getting caught in one manner or another. Next time, don't break the rules and don't hit anyone for any reason except in self-defense when there are no alternatives.

Tell your parents you've learned your lesson with all the above and maybe they'll ease up a bit on the punishment.
@jessiclaire13: But you cant be skipping class and how much longer was it before lunch?
carebear90 · 31-35, F
@SBelle: 30 minutes
@jessiclaire13: Well I am sorry but if you are real nice maybe they will just ground you for the day😞
I'd have to know the specifics regarding the fight and why it went down. As a parent, I know that a fight works both ways. Someone didn't walk away. Someone allowed their anger to get the best out of him or her. Taking everything into consideration would lead to a fair punishment, or discussion.

Yep. Why did you get into a fight?
carebear90 · 31-35, F
Because I skipped class and snuck into the cafeteria to eat lunch early because I was hungry and someone snitched on me
