Is it selfish for one to not want to celebrate their own birthday?

If anything I think it's selfish of others to force someone into a birthday celebration they don't want.

Last year I was on a family vacation and specifically as usual asked my family to not do anything. They picked up a cake and sent my kids and nephew to con me into going upstairs. I told the kids they could go upstairs and share my piece. I stayed in my room on my bday, all night to avoid it and any other bday attention. Its not selfish but if people want to make the effort I'd personally let them. People have good intentions and mean well, even if it is a pain in the ass for oneself. lol.

Not to me but I hate my birthday too and I use the excuse that I don't want to celebrate cuz of all the bad stuff that has happened to me around my birthday, even tho I don't care

It all depends on the individual and what they want according to themselves. My sister's birthday was last week and she always just wants best wishes and nothing more.

I don't really care for it anymore...I mean, I like celebrating it on my own...but I don't like making an event out of it.

It's not a selfish decision. If they really want to wish good for us then they should respect our feeling and leave us alone

not at all... I don't like to celebrate my birthday and if it is not a surprise, I will not let anybody celebrate my birthday as well
