What is one thing you consider significant that isn't taught in school?

SW-User
how to manage money properly tbh
SW-User
Many have said that
SW-User
Basic finance things such as how to file checks and other banking account info.
SW-User
Wish they could teach that in school like they've done in university.
RealMustangGuy · 61-69, MVIP
Several others have said it too. But financial literacy, money management, how to handle personal finances, how loans and interest work, etc.
SW-User
Yeah, school doesn't teach us much about organizing money, does it?
RealMustangGuy · 61-69, MVIP
@Alex1610: No not at all. And it's a critical life skill that should be taught in schools.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
Personal relations should be a class
SW-User
I thought it has been taught in college?
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
I was thinking k-12
Elegy · 46-50
Personal money management
SW-User
The most recommended one
Elegy · 46-50
Ah, yes I see.
SW-User
How to date.😁😁
SW-User
I'm sure even teachers are struggling with that
SW-User
@Alex1610: lol. Hahahaha. Yes.😂😂😂
SW-User
How to be yourself
SW-User
That can't be taught
firefall · 61-69, M
American schools?
1. Life skills (budgeting, cooking, sewing, cleaning for all students)
2. Critical analysis of the dicta of authority
CoffeeFirst · 56-60, F
@firefall: I learned 1) in home economics, and I learned 2) by being a college student.
SW-User
@CoffeeFirst: Life experience*
firefall · 61-69, M
@CoffeeFirst: of course, and I'm sure some ppl still do, but (1) is something everyone should be taught in high school, not just those who do Home Ec, and (2) is desparately needed long before you get to college - if you only start learning it there, you've already been inculcated deeply in the american cult of obediance and acceptance of authority.
agreatday · 56-60, M
common sense.
SW-User
Touche. But common sense must be learned by the students themselves too
theMeggyD · 22-25, F
SW-User
Lol
CoffeeFirst · 56-60, F
Financial management is so important. Some high schools and colleges do teach it but I wish I had learned more. Learning by doing is expensive! --DW
SW-User
Universities do teach it but you can only learn it when you major in its field...Sad
CoffeeFirst · 56-60, F
...or if you have time to fit it in your schedule. My dad taught a life finances class at a community college when he realized kids didn't know what an interest rate on a credit card was. ("25% APR" = bad!)
SW-User
@CoffeeFirst: Cool!!! I need to contact him lol
xRedx · M
The Federal Reserve.
xRedx · M
@Alex1610: We would at least have the knowledge of where the currency originates. We work our entire lives for this. Wouldn't you agree with me that it only makes sense to have this basic knowledge?
SW-User
@xjesse24: I agree, but I don't think most students will...lol
xRedx · M
@Alex1610: Most people don't even know. It's sad really.
SW-User
Social skills , interview skills , Financial management , ( Credit worthiness )
SW-User
Agreed
SW-User
Lol They do teach them in school
@Alex1610: not in mine 😖
SW-User
Oh...
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
they do teach you to respect others in school
SW-User
They didn't teach you respect in school? 😲
@Alex1610: weird
Datdudeblack · 36-40, M

SW-User

SW-User
Street smartness
SW-User

SW-User
SW-User

basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
