Do you think we laugh too much?

I think we laugh too much & too little. We laugh at things we don't think are funny, and things we do think are funny we don't laugh at.

We use humour as a defence mechanism okay?

Laughing is good

I agree

I don't laugh very much. I wouldn't waste a laugh on something that's not funny
Serenitree · F
Most people do. It is, I think, a healthy reaction to fear.

How is it healthy?
Serenitree · F
@Winterwanderer: okay. I find it difficult to express in my own words so I looked it up and found this.

being able to laugh at a trauma at the moment it occurs, or soon after, signals both to ourselves and others that we believe in our ability to endure it.

It's simply a defence. Laughter can: Stimulate many organs. Laughter enhances your intake of oxygen-rich air, stimulates your heart, lungs and muscles, and increases the endorphins that are released by your brain. Activate and relieve your stress response. Soothe tension.

In short, laughing is healthy.

We laugh at the unfunny, because it eases our pain by releasing endorphins.
As for not laughing at what we find funny, I'm afraid you've lost me there. I have no idea what you're saying. Can you give an example so I can relate, please. I'm honestly bewildered by that statement.

@Winterwanderer: I guess I'd rather look like an idiot. If something makes me giggle, I giggle.

Here's an example. I was on a bus one day. I saw something that made me laugh. Either no one else saw it, or I was the only one who thought it was funny. I laughed out loud. Got some odd looks and that just made me laugh even more.

The thing I was laughing at, was when I got on the bus it was a sunny day. No rain, not even a cloud. At some point, the sky turned dark and it began to pour. I mean buckets. One second in that and you're drenched. A man got off the bus. He got drenched instantly. Standing in the pouring rain, he looked up at the sky, and held a hand out, as we do, if we aren't sure if we really just felt a few sprinkles of rain. It struck me funny. He seemed so confused, like

"where did this water come from?"

Hahah, I laughed too! & honestly I think you have the right mindset, if you want to laugh just laugh, with little concern for appearances.

For some people, those odd looks are something to be fearful of.
Serenitree · F
@Winterwanderer: yes. There was a time when I feared looking foolish. I'm about to post that story. I was going to post it here, but it's too long for a response. If you care to read it, it will be up in a few minutes.

It's all a matter of perception.
