Are Hospital Charities a Scam?

I used to donate religiously until I found out the CEO of our local Children's Hospital is making 350k/yr with a huge bonus on top. I think about all those little charities that work for months to collect 25k and they are all so proud to hand it over to the hospital.

Everyone feels so good helping out those poor kids there.

Little do they know, their money went into the pocket of the CEO, probably spent that same evening on some outlandish meal.

Are Cancer charities the same? Does any of it ever get to actually finding a cure? I think charities just keep these places open, nobody is actually trying to find a cure. Milking the people as it were.

Don't hold back giving from the heart, but do try to investigate the charities you donate to. There are many fine charities out there, and many do great things.

The organization Charity Navigator (www.charitynavigator.org) rates all U.S. tax exempt organizations and has great information about how much of donations actually go to the intended purpose and other information that is useful when considering where to donate.
I donated art to a hospital charity auction. They promised they would send me the tax forms and let me know what they went for. Money wise. I've never heard from them a year now.
Probably it is hanging in the CEO's mansion someplace.
I think all charities are a scam. They don't need the donation money to help these kids. It's just a front. They can help them without money.

The "American Cancer Society" is the worst.
