Anyone who knows something about laptops?

My Samsung laptop, now about 5 years old, is having issues. It keeps shutting down on me.
I don't know what the problem is, but when I do too much at the same time, it just shuts down, like it hasn't got enough power to keep doing what it's supposed to lol.

Could it be a power thing or could it be the fan overheating? I don't know...but hope I can get it fixed.

download a fixit program for free like Glary utilities or advanced system care 9.x , its fairly easy to use and helps clean up your system from junk files that bog up your system and also checks out your Registry files for mess ups and a few other things and improves run time operation of your system as well , there's also CCleaner and Kingsoft PC Doctor and few other Free Fixit programs too

DONT use fixit program for free like Glary utilities or advanced system care 9.x !!!!!!!!!!!! get
http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/windows_repair_all_in_one.html. its free too but wont wreck your comp like the others

here's the Run down on these Free Fixit programs , i've spent a lot of my time running them and comparing them to one another , CCleaner is quick but not so comprehensive , Glary Utilities is not bad speed wise and has a lot of options to use , Advanced system care 9.X is kind of slow but is also the best in Depth , Kingsoft PC Doctor has great looking graphics but speed wise mediocre , most of these Free Fixit programs don't Fix ALL the problems but will Fix about 82 to 86% of them , to Fix ALL the problems you got to Pay for the UpGrade code

DO NOT use any of the apps furryface suggests. you do NOT need a registry cleaner.it can seriously wreck your comp.

If the laptop is completely shutting down without any error messages, the issue is almost certainly hardware related. Either the CPU is overheating or something on the motherboard is going bad. I assume you have a power cord plugged into the laptop and not running entirely on the battery.

If the laptop starts back up after being off for a few minutes, that sounds like an overheating issue. Unfortunately, 5 years is almost ancient when it comes to computers. You may want to start looking at a newer computer. Laptops are fairly cheap now, as not as many people want to use them. More people seem to just use a tablet or even smartphone.

@Kelly - I'd certainly read that about cars. They used to last for years and years, and then the motor companies realised they shouldn't make them quite so well to get more new sales...

Or course, that could be an urban myth :)

Says Microsoft now:

Some products such as registry cleaning utilities suggest that the registry needs regular maintenance or cleaning. However, serious issues can occur when you modify the registry incorrectly using these types of utilities. These issues might require users to reinstall the operating system due to instability. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved without a reinstallation of the Operating System as the extent of the changes made by registry cleaning utilities varies from application to application

If the bottom gets hot and shuts down. It's an overheating problem on the CPU. Which would probably be a bad CPU fan, which would need to get replaced.

Could be the fan or the battery I think, but I´m not an expert. Try to call the samsung help center they might give you a better advice 🙂

TBH, 5 years is a good long run for a laptop... They are not really built for longevity. Hell! Nothing is these days!

@Kellybear - Oh... Well, that's the extent of my technical knowledge exceeded... Sorry x

Maybe it doesn't have enough memory or the battery is going.
EJTOOO · 18-21, F
probably overheating. try cleaning it inside

did you ever get it figured out? I'm thinking you may have some lint built up in the cooling fan or the fan may have died - it will shut down if it overheats
KellyBear · 41-45, F
yes I had someone check it out for me. There was indeed lint built up in the cooling fan but I was lucky that it was still okay once it was clean.

It's working better again now, after a reformat as well and all the updates, and a cooler to put the laptop on....all of that together works, so I will be enjoying my laptop for a while longer :-)
Pretzel · 61-69, M
yeah, I've taken mine apart before and it looked like it has a piece of felt in it - the fan was blowing but couldn't move any air.

glad it worked for you!

@Quizling: couldn't agree more, nothing lasts long these days. Did you know they do that on purpose? They make them last less long so we'd buy more
KellyBear · 41-45, F
@Evokinevil: ouch... that's what I thought as well, but sounds expensive to me, better to just buy another laptop then 😖
KellyBear · 41-45, F
@Quizling: well I don't think it could be the battery because I don't put it in.
KellyBear · 41-45, F
@FurryFace: thank you for the tip, will try it and let you know ;-)
KellyBear · 41-45, F
@sighmeup: what do you mean by that lol, I know it's a Samsung....
KellyBear · 41-45, F
@Fernie: I hope that it's not the hard drive lol
KellyBear · 41-45, F
@liveinadream: I'll try that too, thx
KellyBear · 41-45, F
@Ejtoo: thank you, will try that too :-)
