I Believe In Corporal Punishment

A report in today's papers says that three boys from the same school in northern England have committed suicide in the last year, apparently as a result of bullying.

In my day, if a boy was found bullying at school he was caned. There wasn't much bullying at my school, and certainly no suicides.

Wow that's sad and to think it could be stopped easily if the school just did their jobs. I find most schools now cater to bullies. They like to wine and dine them. Very sad.

Trouble is today is their is no cp in schools and offenders are only given a warning, no firm action is taken. In my days bullies got six of the cane and they certainly thought again before they bullied anybody. In spite of all the outcry that it is wrong to hit children it worked. Today too much sympathy is given to the offender and not to the victim. Why should be feel sorry for a boy that has a sore bottom for a couple of days as a result of it being caned for being a bully compared to the suffering of the person who has suffered bullying for ages.

To defend schools much of the bullying is now online via social media and is far hsrder to detect than in my days when it was more physical

@chikki I used to think that caning for bullying was a way to stop it and then I came to the conclusion that actually it was just another act of physical bullying by a bigger person. There are better ways of stopping bullying and that can involve strong punishment if needed in the form of social sanctions which matter to teenagers in particular.
bully's in my school days always had 2 or 3 helpers. If you was bulled you could sort it in a one on one in the boxing ring. 9 times out of 10 with out helpers the bullies got a good beating

At my school, girls bullies were caned too, even if their victim was a boy.

Quite agree. It ought to be relatively easy for schools and parents to police online bullying, but few seem to bother.
