Anyone that's not American?

What's happening with your politics then? Anything interesting?
Our PM is a himbo (male bimbo). He makes all the SJW's in America jizz in their pants.

There is currently a leadership race for our Conservative Party. The forerunner is....urgh... a business man and a reality tv star....

Motion m-103 is being debated in Parliament. It's stated purpose is to curb Islamophobia in Canada.

The Carbon tax is much hated and will likely cause the end of politicians who support it.
@ajoite: Each province is required to come up with their own carbon tax policy by 2018 or the federal government will impose their policy. So it depends in which province you live. We have 10 provinces, 3 territories.
ajoite · 51-55, F
@Ax17x7: Do your provinces have much independent power? In Wales we have a Welsh assembly but unlike Scotland the laws are the same as England, we only differ in small details as in what date a new law will be introduced. We then have County Councils that only really deal with local bylaws
@ajoite: The provinces do have a degree of independent power. The jurisdictions of the provincial governments and the federal government are outline in the British North American Act.

This is just one thing besides the fact that our president is extremely incompetent and corrupt :
"IT HAS been a disaster in agonising slow motion. To cut costs, health officials in Gauteng province (South Africa’s economic hub, which includes Johannesburg and Pretoria) decided to transfer psychiatric patients from specialised private hospitals to care homes run by charities. Family members, psychologists and advocacy groups all warned that this could be dangerous for the patients. They pleaded with Qedani Mahlangu, the provincial health minister, and even went to court to try to stop the move, arguing that vulnerable people were being rushed into dodgy homes. Ignoring their concerns, Ms Mahlangu went ahead. Some 1,300 patients were moved over several months last year. An ombudsman’s report described this process as a “cattle auction”, with care homes jostling over which patients they wanted. Some sent pickup trucks to fetch them. Disabled patients were tied down with bed sheets for transport. Families did not know where their loved ones had gone. Soon, patients were dying."
ajoite · 51-55, F
That's horrendous, we had our local psychiatric ward close down a few years ago and people and families were given no notice of being moved and that was heartbreaking enough, but this is horrific, this is the trouble Britain is being saturated with American news, we don't get to hear about stuff like this, I'm going to read up on it
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
@ajoite: Cool If you want to see just how incompetent our president is then google something like "youtube Jacob Zuma attempting to read a large number". It's hilarious and tragic. A tragicomedy.
ajoite · 51-55, F
@Wraithorn: I will definitely when I get on WiFi tomorrow thanks

Canadian politics is pretty boring. But yes as Firespirit says their is a new bill about anti-Islamic talk. Although I hate racism, I think this bill is going to far. We have freedom of speech none of us should be immune to critism.
ajoite · 51-55, F
Absolutely! Couldn't agree more, I'm an atheist and also hate racism BUT it seems to be ok to question or even mock any other religion apart from Islam, and that's getting a bit scary
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
I mock most things, I should be free to do so. Canada has a policy of Multiculturalism but I think all should conform to a greater Canadian value system and have the maturity to take critism including myself @ajoite:
ajoite · 51-55, F
@JimboSaturn: Sure, I get taken the piss out of for my views and beliefs and endlessly questioned, it's ok I can take it, there's no law protecting me though, we just need to find a balance, if we stop being able to talk and question things, we create dictators
CaptainCanadia · 41-45, M
I'm Canadian. Major politics events right now are the election of Justin Trudeau (son of a previous PM, sort of a centre-right who comes across as centre-left, and a sexy beast of a man), Truth and Reconciliation with First Nations people (basically coming to terms with the horrible shit we've done to native people over our history), and some political tete-a-tete with Russia.

To be honest, most of our political focus is south of the border. 90% of our economy is tied to the US, and Trump is a major, major change to the US identity. So there's a lot of peeking over the border and whispering fiercely to each other. Because Trump's far right populism was successful, it has a certain popularity in Canada's right and so there's a struggle going on there.
ajoite · 51-55, F
I didn't know you had a truth and reconciliation thing going on, is it basically saying sorry or is there land being talked about? What's the general thinking then in Canada? Mostly right wing/ middle/left. The tête-a-tête with the Russians sounds interesting
CaptainCanadia · 41-45, M
They have land, but the integrity of that land is a problem. Resource extraction leads to violations of treaties, or poisoning water sources and destroying the ecology of traditional hunting land. This is coupled with unbelievable, 3rd world poverty and ongoing racism. Most people should be rich if you find a diamond mine on their land - if it's a reserve, the people there will suffer greatly and not see any money from it.

The biggest issue is coming to terms with Residential Schools, which was a decades-long program of taking children from First Nation families, and forcing them into basically white Christian re-education schools that were horrifically abusive - like on-site graveyards abusive. It was an intentional attempt to destroy several cultures and royally messed up a couple of generations.

The Russian thing is NATO posturing. So we moved some troops to Latvia, and now there's some accusations of Russians trying to circulate embarrassing information on anti-Russia politicians. Nothing super major, yet. Don't know where that's leading.
ajoite · 51-55, F
' Stolen children ' as they had in Australia and South Africa, I never would have guessed you had that in Canada. Before anyone jumps in, I'm well aware of British horrific deeds.

Protests in Romania about two weeks ago.

@Ax17x7: People going at the newly ellected government because of a law regarding amnesty.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Oh yes is this the power given to government officials to take bribes? good job Romania! Fight back!
ajoite · 51-55, F
I know a few Romanians, they've told me alot about a mafia type culture there
Firespirit · 22-25, M
A bill that makes anything critical about Islam illegal
Cierzo · M
Spain. Public budget for 2017 has not been approved yet. The main issue in the country now is a bus hired by a Catholic group with the motto 'boys have a penis, girls have a vagina' in its side, that has been banned to circulate by some judge under the accusation of transphobia and hate speech.
ajoite · 51-55, F
Wow, is that a public use bus or a campaign bus ?
Cierzo · M
@ajoite: A campaign bus.
Renikari · F
I don't have any politics. Following politics is for gimps.
ajoite · 51-55, F
@Renikari: Well that makes even less sense
Renikari · F
@ajoite: A retarded person, in other words.
ajoite · 51-55, F
@Renikari: Yes sorry I know what cripple means I just meant her insult made even less sense
Thingschange4444 · 51-55, M
Iam British. And here and across Europe weve had brexit to divide the people just like u have with Trump and Clinton. Pretty even keel. No coincidence surely. Lol

Burnley123 · 41-45, M
My beloved Labour Party has massive problems.
ajoite · 51-55, F
What do you think of Corbin then?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@ajoite: Its a good question and I could write a blog peice on that (and maybe I will). Here is the mega short version:

I joined Labour because of Corbyn, I agree with him politically but its very hard to see him succeeding. I never thought he would be PM but I thought he could get the ideas out there to be contested. Unfortunately that hasn't happened either.

There are lots of reasons for it. The media, party division, Brexit splitting the Labour base, historic decline, crisis for social democratic parties in Europe. Corbyn also has to take some of the blame though because there has been no clear strategy and he is just not connecting.

I voted for Corbyn twice and would do so again if there was another coup by the Labour right. However, if he resigned and handed over to a younger and more capable lefty like Clive Lewis or Rebecca Long-Bailey then I wouldn't be against it at this stage.
ajoite · 51-55, F
@Burnley123: I like Corbin too because he is going back to the roots of what Labour stood for, but the likes of Corbin is why we ended up with new labour in the first place, probably won't get elected and labour changed what they stood for in order to get elected and the Conservatives changed who they were and we ended up with beige political parties with not much separating them. Alot who were old Labour when Blair was in was given a non political job to play with, Tony Banks who I met quite a few times and liked was given Minister of sport, if I. had my tin foil hat to hand I would talk about my fear that a few were bumped off. Anyway ! It's a tough one I really can't see Corbin being Prime minister but I hope he sticks around
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
How is the political scene in Wales Ajoite? Who do you vote for?
ajoite · 51-55, F
Well most of Wales doesn't know the difference between an MP and a AM (Welsh assembly) but it doesn't make alot of difference we have the same laws as England, I'm actually more interested in local council, we have a horrendously corrupt council taking backhanders, massive expenses, breaking laws concerning freedom of information and continuing to waste money on things that don't work or are incorrectly built or things that nobody wanted, will pm you about your other question
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
We're moving towards independence.
ajoite · 51-55, F
I love Sturgeon! She would have made a bloody good PM, our loss is your gain
sally1981 · 41-45, F
