Why the country name of north korea is democratic peoples Republic of korea?

Petty despots love to put the word 'democratic' or 'peoples' in the title in order to give some basic semblance of being a free state. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is the same deal.

Should there be any country in the world with the name 'democratic' in it? There was democracy in ancient Greek. Today's democracy is a farce. It is oligarchy.

They're hardly going to call themselves "The Oppressive Dictatorship Shithole of Korea" are they?

One could equally ask why it's called the United States of America when clearly it's by no means United at this time
